6 November 2023 Written by VRC

VRC today announced an all-star Australian lineup including Delta Goodrem and Jon Stevens who will both take centre stage at Flemington on Lexus Melbourne Cup Day with Natalie Imbruglia set to sing the Australian National Anthem ahead of the ‘race that stops a nation’™.

ARIA award winner and multi-platinum singer/songwriter Delta Goodrem will provide the soundtrack for The Magic of the People’s Cup visual package with a cover of The Americas You Can Do Magic and continue to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her debut studio album Innocent Eyes with a live performance of Born to Try for everyone at the track and those tuning in from home.

Australian rocker Jon Stevens will get the crowd on their feet with Touch and Take Me Back, and Australian-British singer-songwriter and actress Natalie Imbruglia will bring it home with a moving rendition of the Australian National Anthem.

Melbourne Cup Carnival Ambassador, Delta Goodrem said singing on Lexus Melbourne Cup Day will be an unforgettable honour.

“I haven’t sung in the Mounting Yard at Flemington on Cup Day since 2007 and am so looking forward to taking to the stage alongside friends, Jon Stevens and Natalie Imbruglia,” Ms Goodrem said.

“This is my fourth year as a Melbourne Cup Carnival ambassador. What I love most about the event is that it truly is an Australian moment, a part of our social fabric, that’s watched and loved globally.”

Lead singer of 80s rock band Noiseworks and later fronting the legendary INXS, Jon Stevens said he’s excited to return trackside to put on an electrifying show for Lexus Melbourne Cup Day racegoers.

“The Melbourne Cup Carnival is one of my favourite events of the year and I’m stoked to be part of the entertainment lineup on such an iconic day,” Mr Stevens said.

Marking her first performance at the Melbourne Cup Carnival, international star Natalie Imbruglia said she’s delighted to be part of official proceedings.

“This will be the first time I have ever performed the Australian National Anthem in my career and it is an honour. I’m looking forward to singing on Lexus Melbourne Cup Day, not only to a packed crowd at Flemington, but to share this moment with the millions of people tuning in around the world,” she said.

VRC Chairman Neil Wilson said the Club was thrilled to welcome the iconic trio of Australian royalty to Flemington on the first Tuesday of November.

“Delta, Jon and Natalie are all much loved Australian performers and we’re looking forward to welcoming Delta and Jon back to the track and having Natalie perform as part of the pre-race entertainment for the first time,” Mr Wilson said.

“The Lexus Melbourne Cup is broadcast into 209 countries and territories with a potential global reach of 750 million people, making it one of the nation’s largest and most impressive platforms to promote Melbourne and Australia to the world, and we couldn’t have asked for a better Australian lineup to be a part of the build-up.”.

The 2023 Melbourne Cup Carnival will kick off with Penfolds Victoria Derby Day on Saturday 4 November. This will be followed by Lexus Melbourne Cup Day on 7 November, Kennedy Oaks Day on Thursday 9 November and TAB Champions Stakes Day on Saturday 11 November.
