Preserving history

Trained by John Kelly and Jack Holt and owned by E. Lee-Steere, Eurythmic had an impressive race record, including wins in the 1920 Caulfield Cup, 1921 Sydney Cup, Perth Cup, and consecutive L.K.S Mackinnon Stakes here at Headquarters in 1921 and 1922. After a spectacular season with 12 wins from 13 starts, he retired as a six-year-old with 31 victories. He was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame in 2005.

The generous gift was received early this year and after initial assessment by our Art & Heritage Curator was sent to the experts at University of Melbourne’s Grimwade Conservation Services for treatment.

Here we go behind the scenes and meet Caroline Fry, Principal Conservator, who has taken on the delicate task of bringing this significant piece of racing heritage back to its former glory in preparation for display at Flemington Racecourse.
